Pool Boy

I can't believe how fast time is going, it's almost July 4th and summer will be half over! As hard as that is to swallow, I have to admit that I will like having Ethan back in school in the fall. I'm super spoiled, I know. However, one of my friends has 4 children and her husband spent some time with Ethan and told me that he's really 4 kids wrapped up into 1. Just saying.

Our therapy schedule is really laid back this summer, which is fine by us both. Ethan could use some time to just be a kid and I could use a break from all the shuttling. He really technically should be in all of his therapies once a week, but it's not happening and I've accepted that it's not the end of the world for him to slow it down.

He is doing really well lately. He can now use those pedals, but he usually opts to use his feet on the ground since it's much faster. He does pedal for grandparents though! He is still impossible to reason with on even the most infantile level, and that coupled with his explosive temper has been a real treat lately. Rich is out of town except weekends so I've been hiring a sitter here and there to keep myself sane. Even with the tantrums he continues to make progress and I have to give him credit where it's due. Little guy is one tough cookie.

Not much else to report, we're just kicking back and enjoying our new place during this beautiful season.

Good to see an update and that you are relaxing the pace a bit. Ethan sure does look like he is enjoying the pool in this photo. I'm looking forward to some better weather so our pool can get more use.

As for 4 children, my sister has 4 as well and it does seem that it can be easier taking care of them in one day vs. my two. Our special kiddos require us to give so much more so we need to be sure to take a break for ourselves or we'll burn out when we can't afford to! I am keeping ours for a few hours a week even after I stop working next week, which will be a really big splurge for us.

Oh, say it ain't so (that the summer is half over)! The pool looks really lovely with this hot and muggy weather- kids sure love the water!

Explosive temper tantrums can be so awful. Especially if they happen frequently! Matt (speech delayed) has been awful with tantrums and will just melt down and there is NOTHING in the world that helps. I'm sending some "reasonableness" (if that is a word) vibes your way!

We slowed down on the therapy schedule this summer, too. That was as much for me, as for Emmi. For the past five years, she has had at least two therapy sessions per week. Sometimes she had as many as five. That doesn't even include all of the doctor appointments we attend weekly that take me over an hour to drive to!

Sounds wonderful! I can't believe it's almost July, either...make me sad and wistful. I love your yard, btw--such a lush lawn!

KayTar hasn't been in therapy all YEAR. She lost her insurance in January and then once she got it back we were wait listed. I think both her therapists will be shocked with her progress when they see her again, though!

Glad you guys are enjoying the slower pace!

Hi, I just ran across your blog and a lot of what's going on with your son sounds so much like my Brayden. So far apraxia has been ruled out. He's been diagnosed with Asperger's, A.D.H.D, O.D.D, O.C.D, and Tourette's. I can't get a solid answer to what's going on. We also continue to use sign so he can communicate with us or he gets really frustrated.

Wonderful pictures. It's great you can enjoy one another this summer. And it's even better for you both that you can get away now and then. Moms need that time to revitalize themselves. They can be better moms that way.

Good for you for taking some time out for yourself. Sanity is good, sister.
